Bedford Ensuite: Organic Warmth and Modern Contrast

This ensuite renovation in Bedford, Nova Scotia, turned a dated primary bathroom into a relaxing retreat that pairs contemporary design with organic warmth. The layout was reworked to make the most of the available space, adding a sprawling double-sink vanity, a freestanding soaking tub and a spacious walk-in shower. Matte black vessel sinks sit atop quartz counters above a custom white oak vanity and matching linen tower, while matte black fixtures and backlit LED mirrors play against a horizontal shiplap accent wall and a wood-look shower surround. The main challenge was maximizing the footprint without sacrificing the natural light from the room's large windows. Relocating the plumbing allowed a tuxedo-style freestanding tub to sit beneath the window as the focal point of the room, and large-format vertical wood-grain tile in the walk-in shower draws the eye upward to make the ceiling feel higher. A glass enclosure keeps the space open and bright, and a floor-to-ceiling storage cabinet keeps the finished room clutter-free.
