A full-scale renovation transformed an outdated bathroom in Dartmouth Nova Scotia into a modern and highly functional space. The project focused on maximizing usability, enhancing the design, and creating a more accessible and enjoyable room for the homeowners. The renovation began with a complete demolition of the existing structure, revealing the challenges common to older homes. This process uncovered piles of seaweed that had been stuffed in between the studs, a material that was historically used as insulation in the Halifax area. The demolition also exposed outdated plumbing systems necessitating full replacement, and damage to floor joists and subflooring also required repair. Electrical systems were also updated to comply with current safety standards. Efficient design solutions were essential to maximize usability within the existing space. The original interior door, which contained lead paint, required specialized removal and refinishing.
