This transformation took a cramped, dated bathroom plagued by awkward angled ceilings and a closet-like shower stall and opened it into a luxurious oasis. The footprint was expanded by borrowing space from the adjacent bedroom closet, and removing the heavy bulkhead above the old shower along with the wall separating it from the sink added both height and width. A custom-tiled walk-in shower with a rounded clear-arch glass panel keeps the room feeling airy. The homeowners were determined to preserve their original cast iron bathtub, so it was paired with a wall-mounted cast iron sink that honours the home's character. Polished navy subway tile wraps the main wall, an optical trick that makes the room read as significantly longer, accented by vintage gold plumbing fixtures, a light patterned floor tile and mosaic rock tile in the shower base and niche. A custom recessed niche with floating shelves adds storage where there was none, and new lighting turned a dark, gloomy room into a bright one.
