The Hex and Arch Suite: An Award-Winning Dartmouth Bathroom Renovation
The Hex and Arch Suite won a 2026 Peak Award for Most Outstanding Bathroom Renovation. It started as a small, outdated three-piece bathroom in a Dartmouth home, with a high-threshold tub at the top of the homeowners' list of problems. It finished as a full primary wing: a four-piece spa bathroom, a new walk-through closet, and room left over for a home office. This is how it came together.
The Starting Point

The original bathroom was a small, outdated three-piece room: a tub behind folding glass doors, a toilet, and a single vanity. The homeowners' most pressing problem was the high-threshold tub, which made both the bathroom and the dog hard to keep clean.
Finding the Space
There was no room to grow inside the existing bathroom, but the house had an unused bedroom. We expanded the bathroom into it. That meant carrying a structural beam through a load-bearing wall, which is the kind of decision that has to be engineered and permitted before demolition, not discovered during it.
The extra space did more than enlarge the bathroom. It made room for a four-piece suite, a new walk-through closet, and still left space for a home office.
The Design

A custom blue vanity with quartz counters sits against champagne fixtures and black accents. A hand-framed arch entryway leads to floating shelves that recede into the wall. Behind the freestanding tub, a geometric accent wall of hexagon tile climbs to the ceiling.
Solving the Tub Problem

The high-threshold tub came out, and in its place went a zero-entry custom shower tiled in marble-look porcelain. It made it easy to clean both the bathroom and the dog. A freestanding tub stayed in the design, so the suite kept a place for a bath.
What You Do Not See
The parts of a bathroom that decide how long it lasts are the ones behind the tile. The build uses a full Schluter-KERDI waterproofing system. Electric heating runs under the floor. The lighting is low-wattage LED, and low-VOC products were used throughout.
The Result

The finished suite was recognized with a 2026 Peak Award for Most Outstanding Bathroom Renovation. More photos are on the Hex and Arch Suite project page.
